LaCie is good. Maxtor makes some decent ones as well. Be careful with skimping on the external cases for the hard drives. They can bite you in the ass.

I was under the impression that there are Maxtor drives inside the LaCie boxes. But this could be rumors on the internets!

Hate to butt in...I passed up a Seagate for a Western Digital and I haven't seen them mentioned here yet. I might have to get another one soon since this one is almost full. Should people avoid this brand?
(Come to think of it, I passed up a Maxtor (sp?)too due to really lousy customer service! HA!) Thanks in advance!!!

thanks for the reply - heard or Maxtor - glad to know LaCie is decent quality. What do you mean to skimping on the external case? I know the lacie ones are pretty solid - the iomega ones seem small and sleek. Since i got kids around, I certainly want good solid quality.

That's all I meant. Don't be cheap with them. You get what you pay for.
